I was raised in East Texas - graduated from Pine Tree High School - went to Kilgore College. Started Ace Chimney Service Inc. in 1986. It has been important to me to keep it a family run business.
The most frequently asked question - is how did I chose chimney sweeping as a profession?
I started out as a pipe-fitter and had to travel a lot - missing time with my son and his activities. I always wanted to own my own business.
One day I saw an ad in the paper for a chimney sweeping business. I checked into it and decided to give it a try. I bought the equipment and took a certification test given by the Chimney Safety Institute of America [CSIA]. We are tested every 3 years and do continuing eduction classes - this keeps us up to date on new technology about fireplaces, wood-stoves, inserts and vents in general. We also learn problem solving - such as smoking problems - leaking problems, etc.
As I am getting older - bummer! I have brought my step-son into the company. I don't want Ace Chimney Service, Inc. to just disappear. Jeff will be taking over the business when I retire. I will be training him over the next several years on how Ace operates. It is very important to us that the quality of work preformed by Ace stays the same.
Jeff plans on keeping it a family run business too!

I was born and raised in Longview. I moved to Mena, AR, and spent several years there before moving to Dallas. In Dallas, I have worked as a tattoo artist for the past 10 years. And have made a very good living at it too. As I get older - I am tired of working every evening and all weekend - ready to stay home in the evening and spend more time with the family.
Then Fred started talking about what he was going to do about the company when he retires - he didn't want to just close it down. So I ask him about taking over it and continue to run it with him and for him. I don't want him to feel kicked out! He thought that would be a great idea, so I started working with him in Oct, Nov, and Dec on a part time basic - as I still work in the tatoo shop the other half of the week.
Starting in Sept of 2011, I will be working with him full time. I will be getting my certification in January - after some training! My wife will take over answering the phone and setting up appointments. (Mom will be spoiling grandchildren that are closer now!)
